The garden is becoming increasingly more important to many people, one thing that can already improve a good garden though is good lighting. Lighting in a garden is essential, especially for nighttime relaxation. A good mix of practical light-sources to give a lot of light is important along with more subtle light to give a 'feel' to the garden, such as when entertaining guests.

 

A practical light source could included a light that automatically lights when it becomes dark or when movement is sensed. It's a good idea to put these types of lights on a PIR or Infra-Red detector. With more subtle lighting however, more flexibility may be needed, LED is becoming increasingly popular as colour changing is easily possible, plus LED lasts tens of thousands of hours and is very compact which is perfect for areas such as decking.

For a statement piece, lamp posts are a very effective and popular way to create a highlighted area such as a planter, Victorian style lanterns with copper heads are a very popular way to have a stunning lamp post.
